The Bananaquit Bird or Antigua sugar Bird

    Coereba flaveola
    Family: Coerebidae (Honeycreepers)

This is a small, 4-5 inch high bird, found near homes and hotels. Known as ‘Sugar Birds’ or ‘Yellow Breasts’ locally, they are well-known for alighting on tables to steal sugar.

The variant in Antigua has a red mark just behind the bill, which is curved and used for obtaining nectar from flowers. Bananaquits, which also eat fruit and insects, build untidy globular nests with a side entrance.

    Have some fun for me...
    Zach
